My recall was done in April of 2001. The smell on my
car is not related. There are three steel lines
running together under the passenger side of the car.
They are held in place by rubber clamps. Mine have
rusted around these clamps under the right rear
passenger seat area. An overengineered clamp IMO. A
slow leak with fuel around it. This cannot be good.
Part # is 4A0 201 544A. List is $238 a set of 3.
I'm looking for a cheaper option.
Option 1: You may be able to splice in a fuel hose if
you bubble flare what you cut out. I figure it's a
crap shoot as the lines are rusting elsewhere too and
eventually they will go.
Option 2: Use large diameter metric brake line. It
will need to be bent correctly with proper fittings on
the ends and some unions to join the two lengths. The
same fittings may work if you remove them from the
original line. I saw the brake line for $5.00 in 60"
lengths.
