One other issue with a failing fuel pressure regulator, is that a failed
diaphram releases fuel into the vacuum line, which can then fill a cylinder.
When you next start the car, the cylinder full of fuel won't compress, and
you break some teeth off the flywheel. Happened to many of the motronic
V8s... assume it will happen for the motronic s-cars as well. Might be a
smart long-term maintenance item?

Me I don't see the FPR as the problem. About all the
FPR can do when it fails is run the car with no
pressure control at all, meaning they run really rich.
He'd know that. The cat would make a big stink and I
think the car would stumble.
