[s-cars] Tacho fix?

There is no potentiometer on our boards, at least not on the S6 boards I've
looked at, and just double checked. The problem is with use of the wrong
circuit board. I'm speculating that the handful of us that have the low
tach reading have a car that at some point had warranty work done on the IC
and the replacement supplied by Audi used the wrong circuit board, 6cyl vs
5cyl. Just a guess. Don't know how it relates to your Coupe IC.
As for how you would check RPM on our direct ignition systems, the answer
has coincidently enough been the subject of much discussion over the last
couple of days. Use channel 28 (17?) of the Climate Control OBD. The
output from the OBD system reads accurately on mine, whereas my tach is
about 15-20% lower.
