Hi Guys:

Audi no longer uses the "B" case, so any castings are probably new, old
stock. More than likely, Audi changed the casting tool and later on the
foundry modified the mold to include the "B".

I wanted to get pictures of the 2 different mainshafts, but the last time I
was at Mr. Kluge's he was not his usual, cheery self. In fact, he was like a
grumpy old man! His son later told me that he wanted to "retire" again and
start enjoying life. He is slowly giving up the trans business. Bringing him
yet another CRB did not help the situation.

I asked about the Torsen and got a "UGHH" response. His son told me that it
works based on friction. I did manage to squeak out that Audi experimented
with 65/35 Torsens, but the Torsen design splits the torque 50/50. The only
way to get a permanent non 50/50 traction split is to go to viscous
couplings or other methods. There are different Torsen units. The old ones
are small and the new ones are 4 times bigger, according to his son. I'll
try to get pictures of the difference later.

I will also get some pictures of the 2 different mainshafts, but under the
circumstances I did not feel like taking pictures. Sorry.

HTH, Rob
