[s-cars] Length of S4/S6 Turbo Life

It COMPLETELY depends on how you drive it and other factors. My 200 20v (TAP
chip and wastegete) started to whine at about 70k, however I myself had only
driven it from about 40k, and it was chipped at 60k. I saw a turbo on a 745i
(euro model) with around 150k with the origional turbo (good condition).
Also, don't forget that oil changes are very important, I am somewhat crazy,
I use Mobil 1 and change it every 2500 miles. Keep in mind that proper cool
down is also improtant. However as a general rule I would guess with a
chipped car, 100k or less would be around the time the turbo might need
replacing. The condition of some turbos are way past where I personally
would replace, but the cars are still making boost. I heard of a second 745i
in town with a turbo shaft with so much play you could wiggle the impellers
around within the housing. I had to run my original turbo in my 200 whle my
RS2 was being fixed, and when we pulled it back out, the shaft would move a
good inch horizontally and there was a bunch of aluminum particles in the
inlet tract. Turbo still made good boost and did not sound too bad.
Take the cold side hose off, look at the impeller, and see how much play
there is in there. This is the only way to really tell. Doesn't matter 50k
or 200k.
