The stock turbo should last at least 3 or 4 early transmissions.
More seriously, stock turbos dying? I've heard of 2 cases of them being
rebuilt thus far, and only 1 failure.
I had 180k miles on my car when I replaced the stock turbo, which was still
in good shape, and I have a pretty heavy foot. I replaced it with one from
TEC, and that broke in 9 months, and, of course, they refused the warranty
claim. The second TEC turbo started passing oil at 2 or 3 months.....
From what I understand, KKK makes very strong, durable turbos. I've heard
of few incidents, at least compared to the "replace yearly" policy from a
Colorado firm (not just my bad luck either...)

P.S. I haven't heard of many problems with RS2 turbos either, exceptions
including sucking a bypass valve into the compressor wheel.
