I love my dashboard. I mean those glorious grey dials... But at night they
kinda suck in urban area.
Why ? The reflection of surrounding light make them hard to read. And as a
pilot I like to see things the way they are.
So I went to my favorite stealership and ordered 10 2watt bulb (p/n : 893
919 040 A) to replace those puny 1 watters.
It took me about 5 minutes to remove the dashboard (unscrew two screws
underneath the black plastic trim, 3 screws upfront, tilt the steering all
the way out and down, wiggle it in and out it'll come out).
You need 10 bulbs for an S4 maybe less for an S6. That includes speedo,
tach, water temp, computer, gas, volt/oil pressure (S6/S4) and clock. You
don't need to replace battery, abs, airbag, central indicator thing (OK),
turn signals.
You might need to have to remove the white plastic thing on the back, held
in place by 2 torx screws.
Now that you're done, take your car around the block and enjoy.
Now if you're real anal about it, use a red felt marker and paint the bulbs.
Oooooh mama, as Kramer would say...
That's it ! It costed me about $25 in parts...
There's a slim chance that you get the airbag light on whern putting the
dash back on... Good opportunity to get a VAG COM to get rid of it.
