[s-cars] Shift knob, er Toyota Land Cruiser

For *really* tough off-road travel, look for a '93-97 Land Cruiser with the
optional factory front & rear differential locks. Although you only need
the diff locks for really extreme situations. Even my old '82 FJ-60 series
Land Cruiser wagon could scramble up some pretty steep inclines without a
fuss. The newer Cruiser's standard AWD system (with locking center diff in
low range) can easily take on even the worst kind of "road".
There is plenty of good Land Cruiser info on the Internet.

I've had three Land Cruisers, 1994, 1996, and 1997, and thought they were a
pretty solid compromise of on-road comfort, off road capability, and build
quality and reliability.
I owned a 1996 Tahoe, which was a sloppy joke compared to the Cruiser. I've
been in Hummer H1's and an H2, and the H1s are a show off piece unless you
are in the military, and the H2 is a Tahoe with better off-road capability
and a cooler looking body.
I like Range Rovers, but spotty quality is too risky for me.
