Guys
The 993TT callipers (note English spelling, for once) are available in Red,=
Black and Silver. As my car is stealth personified, I decided against the =
chest-beating red ones and, on the vendor's suggestion went with the Black,=
rather than my choice of Silver, as it was pointed out that the Silver one=
s would always look dirty. Yellow is available to special order.
As far as the calliper piston arrangement is concerned, it is most importan=
t that the 'first' piston diameter is small than the subsequent piston. The=
reason for this is to do with the equalisation of forces upon a spinning d=
isk. In an 8 piston calliper, the arrange ment is Small-Large-Small-Large o=
n each side of the calliper, when moving forwards the Small piston is the f=
irst to apply force to the rotor.
Some figures I saw published recently indicated that the RS6 achieves a ret=
ardation under braking of 10.3 metres per second per second (what is the pr=
eferred way of writing this without superscripts?)

No, Ingo, it is not such a good idea. Although I admit, I was tempted
just to swap the sides instead of swapping the lines. The pistons are of
different DIA. I guess (although don't know for sure) that the reversal
of the pistons would create some kind of uneven brake pressure
distribution. Prolly would create some kind of shimmy problem or
something like that. Them Hans und Klaus guys must have elected the
different piston DIA for a reason. I feel it is best not to challenge
their design.

Yes, the 993tt, see the thread below.

Well- one's black, the other's red, would be pretty easy
to differentiate. So are we talking about the same brakes?

No.
The reds (993tt) and the blacks (928gts) are the same dimensionally, but
one is a mirror of another.
The reds: a direct bolt-on to an UrS.
The blacks: prior to before bolting onto the UrS do reverse the hard
line connecting the halves.

Actually, one person (was it Linus?) brought up
993 non-turbo brakes- those are black and different
from the 993tt brakes- use a slightly smaller pad,
use a smaller rotor.
That's why it is important to differentiate by at least model
number rather than just calling them "black" or "red."
I hear what you're saying Igor, I didn't know that the 928GTS and
the 993tt use different caliper orientations.
