Well If you want to you can take the guage back out of the cluster and
connect it to a 9V battery.  This really isnt good for it but dont put it on
there too long.  If the needle moves you have a good guage.  I have done it
before.  If it is bad don't worry.
800-all-audi has lots of parts for these cars.  I know they have a guage.
They may ask if you tested it because these usually dont go bad.   The dealer
will only sell a complete IC.  Hope that helps.
