Hi Mark,
I wonder if it's necessary to separate the seat and backrest. I've only
replaced the backrest element, and there's no need to do the separation for
that one. Maybe somebody else can answer if it's necessary for the seat
bottom element. And don't get carried away ripping things off on the
backrest. You only need to detach the center section upholstery. There's a
rod that's stitched in at the bottom of the center section. You unclip this
rod from the back of the seat to free the bottom of the center section, then
just slide it up through the gap between the seat and backrest. The rest of
the center section if attached by hog clips from the back. Once the center
section is detached (except for the very top edge) you just fold it back and
it's fully accessible. If you detach any of the side upholstery, you'll
just be putting it back on, unless you for some reason want to completely
remove the backrest cover, which isn't necessary. It's a pretty aggravating
job.
