Bruce;

As Bob mentioned, this sounds like the Type 44 "volcano syndrome". I
believe it is caused by an air leak on the intake side of the pump pulling
air into the oil, creating foam. The increased volume of the foam/oil mix
causes it to overflow the reservoir.

As per Bob's advice, search the archives for "volcano".

Isn't this the infamous volcano syndrome?  I believe it is bomb failure
related but I never really paid attention to all the details in previous
posts regarding this problem.  Search the main quattro archives at
audifans.com for "volcano".  That might get you started.
