[s-cars] new s6 avant owner, couple of questions

Yes, the switch can be bad, or the connectors at the window could be
bad, or the radio module at the rear window (if like my 90q; I haven't
taken apart my S6) could be defective. You need a Bentley manual to
trace it out. At a minimum, pull the switch, pop the cover (this is a
project in itself and requires little screwdrivers and shims) and
examine the sliding contacts for problems. Or, with less work using the
Bentley schematic you can test continuity between switch pins without
taking the switch apart.
I would start by checking the switch, but if I didn't have a manual
handy, would start with pulling the driver side inside trim at the rear
window side (gently) and see if power is getting to that side of the
defroster. If so, is the voltage at the other side zero like it should
be, or 12V indicating that side is not grounded properly.
