Sounds like "slick road" with "patchy bits of wet and/or ice" to me :) I forgot to think of uphill though, good point.
I think in cases like that, you're gonna have some wiggle even if you had 3 locked diff's...
Was the GT4 a non-turbo version of the Celica AllTrac that we never got in the US?
I'll venture to say (for the point of discussion) that a steep incline doesnt "reduce traction" for a AWD vehicle with torsen center, but instead "increases the amount of traction needed" for the same forward motion/acceleration, but thats really splitting hairs and I think we're on the same page regardless :)
(a uphill will though, increase drive traction for RWD and decrease for FWD due to increased weight transfer to the rear)
Now, if you add olive oil, vodka, espresso, or anti-seize to the road surface, all bets are off!!
Cheers,

It happens, did it in a Celica GT4 (rear Torsen,
centre VC) WOT in 2nd gear up a steep incline,
overtaking in wet/icy conditions. I could feel the
back end move around slightly.
The steep incline reduces traction so you wouldn't
need an RS2 setup to cause problems.
