[s-cars] Helpful hints on hood release?

OK, so I successfully installed the Samco hoses and rebuilt hydraulic
pump and shut the hood.

Tried to open it five minutes later and discover that the hood release
isn't releasing; the release just pulls very cleanly and smoothly to
the end of it's travel.

Any helpful hints on getting the catches for the hood to release
before I start trying to twist myself into a pretzel and/or start
breaking things?

It's not a dire emergency at the moment, but one of these days I'm
going to want to change the oil and fill it with fresh!
