Most likely, the FCC BS has been included in the remotes from the
beginning to avoid the development of a different remote for each
radio-frequency regulation. The same they do for most of the computer
stuff.

Objet : [s-cars] Remotes for S6

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Fellow S-ers
I just picked up a 96 Cabriolet and wouldn't you know it,
previous
owner lost the remotes. The 96 Cabriolet uses the same remote as the
S6.
The two button one.
I have a hard time forking out $120 for a single remote. The old brain
starts to turn and I come up with a plan:
I happen to be going to Germany in a month and think to myself, I will
check
prices there and maybe I luck out and they are cheaper in the
Fatherland. (I
am probably kidding myself) Then reality kicks in. Audi probably used
a
different remote system in Europe than they did here in the states as
the
remotes here have the FCC BS all over them.
So is my theory flawed? Can I pick up a remote in Germany and have it
work
in the States?
Anyone's brain work similar to mine? LOL
