[s-cars] Block Heater Question

You're funny Paul! Actually, I feel the same way as Ron in that a block
heater is definitely the way to go if the car sits outside in very cold
climates-especially in Canada. Ron, I checked the part number ZAP-289-106
with the local dealer and it is a good part number. They do not stock them
however. Parts guy said $50. I know there are cheaper sources out there,
maybe even VW? Btw, it doesn't heat the oil, it heats the coolant/water
through one of the freeze plugs in the block, easy to get to.

I had a block heater on my old 5000 TQ and it made starting the car much
easier on the internals. How? The car cranked over at -20F as quickly as a
mid summers day. In fact, out of curiosity, I felt the block after the
heater had been plugged in all night, the block was actually warm! Like
you've noticed, heat from the vents almost instantly and I used it all the
time here in CO and now I'm contemplating doing the same for my S4, just
need an outlet to plug it into.

Chad Clark who's poor car sits outside all night long. Oh! the horror!
