[s-cars] Too many notes

Keith, your right. My old 1987 944 8v'er with my "Carrera Cup" style air
filter and even stock exhaust sounded down right brutish. Very tough and
bullish for a 4 banger. The Porsche 944/951/968 engine runs and sounds like
a jewel. Nicest 4cyl sound to my ears. I could only imagine your 968 Club
Sport with the 11.0:1 ratio 3.0 litre and sport pipe would be glorious. That
has vario-cam timing correct? At least I know first hand how your 968CS
steering wheel feels - I've got one mounted to my 1984 ur-quattro! Nice.

I'll beg to differ, you can get good sound out of a few 4-bangers...

My (ex) S2000 sounded pretty sweet at 9000 rpm especially with the airbox c=
over removed.
(An engine peak that even Pizzo would love)

I test-drove a 968CS M030 with a full "sport auspuf inkl. sport kat" and it=
was quite quite nice. (motor had 7k on it and exhaust was so brand-spanki=
n-new your girlfriend could use the muffler to put her make-up on , bloody =
nice car other than the fact it was Black with no AC... Doh! )

I'm now trying to figure out how to get close to the same music out of my 9=
68.. :)

I'll definately agree that most 4-bangers sound less-than-good, especially =
all those civic's with 5" grapefruit shooter exhausts.

I wonder if it's the relatively high compression ratio of the 968 and S2000=
(both 11.0 : 1) that give them a sound advantage??

Cheers,

95 968CS hopefully not stock exhaust for too much longer...

All this talk of wailing engines got me thinking back. How can there be a
"best"? There isn't, only personal favorites. My favorite engine notes that
I've heard, driven or witnessed, that make me all nutso are...

(snip)

Bottom line is it must have at least 5 cylinders to sound good.
