The "special tool" can be the axle bolt you just removed. Just bolt into
the joint once the axle end is removed from the hub. Hold the axle with
a visegrip. At one point, you'll feel it's harder to bolt, it's just the
circlip holding the joint which come out of the groove. When you have
turn the axle bolt all the way in, unbolt one inch to be able to grab it
firmly and pull on it. The joint will come after one or two strong pull.

Howdy,
While replacing a wheel bearing last month I noticed
that the CV boots (outer) are looking a bit worn.
Multiple small cracks in the bellows - though none
through and through yet. The bently seems to indicate
a special tool for the joint seperation??? Any one
done this? is special tool necessary? and where can I
find one.
TIA
