Your experience sounds about right, I had the same one with a Vette
(essentially the same motor) when I had my MTM I+ setup.
Strong midrange for our cars in MTM I+, but boost and breathing capability
of the K24 drops off significantly at higher RPMs. The RS2 setup (and some
guys running wilder stuff, but still 2.2 motor) typically changes that
equation, so you get less pop in the midrange but more power up high and
more overall.
The LT1 is a strong, torquey engine. Anywhere from 275HP to 320HP depending
on the motor in stock trim, so the fact that you stayed with him at all is a
good sign! If he was running NOS, I doubt he'd be patient enough to wait
until 130MPH to hit it.....Camaro owners are not known for their driving
strategy or patience (haha...just kidding any of you guys that have a Camaro
as a second car).
Probably just more HP and less drag let him pull on you at high speed. If he
was truly "running away from you" at 130MPH when he had been neck and neck
until then, that suggests he was in fact running the juice or was just
playing with you up until that point.

Guys,
How fast are those Neu Camaro SS? Do they have the
LT1 motor?
I had one following me tonight (93 S4 with MTM 1+) on
the on ramp to Rte. 3 in MA (sea level). I was
following a Camry or something in third at about 50,
he was tailgating (in the typical Massachusetts
fashion). As soon as we picked up the highway, I
shifted to the left lane and buried it in third and
looked in the rear view. He was maintaining the same
distance. Huh. I thought I would have munched him.
We soon pass the Camry and there is no traffic in
front of us. Yeah! He shifts over to the right lane
as I grab fourth. We run about the same distance
apart to about 6500 RPM in fourth. I notice that the
tach has just about stopped moving (the engine was way
out of breath) and shift to fifth. I see 130mph
indicated. And I am feeling good. My autobahn burner
was going to show this 1/4 mile pile a thing or 2
about aerodynamics.. Wrong! All of a sudden at about
135mph, this freakin Camaro just walks away from me...
*poof*... It was crazy. I look down at the tach and
see it barely making progress, so I shut it down..
Never had time to look at the boost gauge, so I don't
know what was happening there.
My observations:
The MTM1+ car is quick in midrange, but looses mucho
gusto in the 5500rpm to 7000 rpm range. After about
130mph in 5th, speeds increased at a snails pace.
Could I have heat soaked the intercooler?... It was
just one run, so I doubt it. Could the LT1 have that
much up top? Was the guy running NOS?. Does the RS2
battle gear overcome the K2plateaus plateu?
Anyway, it was fun, and was in safe traffic
conditions. I wonder whose face looked more confused.
His as he learned he was going to have a tough time
pulling on me, or mine when he overtook me like I was
drivOscar Mayere Weinee mobile......
