Bill,
"Whats a "good" soldering iron?" - The best soldering iron I know is Weller.
The expensive one with the different sized tips and temp regulation.
"Whats proper electrical solder?" - Soldering is a certified task in
electronic production. We didn't let just any body do it in production. You
want a shiny, concave bead on the wire (as I recall).
"Whats a good way to hold the parts together while soldering?" - Not with
you fingers.
"What are the proper soldering techniques?" - Hold the cool end of the
soldering iron and not the hot end.
If you need any more on the finer points, feel free to ask :-)
Rich

Subject: [s-cars] Proper Solder Technique?
Sorry to add a seemingly trivial question, but I have...uhmmm... been
working on my iPod install which has required a bit of soldering for an
in line amp I have chosen to add. So, soldering is a skill I believe
could be real usefull.
As always I can hack my way through it, but what is the right way to do
it?
Whats a "good" soldering iron?
Whats proper electrical solder?
Whats a good way to hold the parts together while soldering?
What are the proper soldering techniques?
As usual, TIA!
BTW
iPod wiring is now undergoing some bench testing prior to full install,
and appears to work very well so far. So far, as cool as advertised.
Cheers'
