[s-cars] Replacing central air flap motor V70

The foot/defrost control does not work in my S4, VAG-COM shows a bad V70
motor (central air flap motor).  Bentley says to remove instrument
panel, center console, glove box and driver's side tray.  Last 3 out of
4 items sound pretty easy, but removing the entire instrument panel
(i.e. dashboard) looks like a real PITA.

Has anyone replaced this motor?  Any good tips on how to do this with
minimum fuss (without removing the instrument panel)?
