Sorry for the tardy reply. This sounds like a bad "Temperature Regulator Flap Motor (V68)". I recently bought a replacement to repair a very similar set of symptoms, after VAGing my 95.5 S6A and discovering mine was reporting "Blocked or No Voltage- Intermittent". When I ripped everything apart (really not so bad, about 1/2 hour) and prepared to remove the dead one, the connector came unplugged way too easily. This after having checked it when I first noticed the problem. Yeah, right. In any event, the connector was loose. I checked both the one I had bought, and the one I had taken out of the car, and both worked fine. I lost track of which was the new one, and which was the one out of the car, since there was no visible nor functional difference between them. I'd be happy to send you the one I have sitting in my drawer, for you to use as a known good test, or to replace your dead one. It cost $78.48 from Barry at Clair. Make me an offer if you want to keep it.
-Ian Duff.

Subject: [s-cars] Heater gone into Hades mode
A new issue (besides the cracked steering rack on my '95 S6 which has been
given the body shop treatment and will be reported on later) has cropped up
on my wife's '95 A6Q. From the looks of things the HVAC system is the same
on the A6 and the S6 so here's the question. The heater now has a mind of
its own. At any temperature setting higher then LO, the heater pumps out
heat relentlessly without any modulation, no matter what the interior or
outside temperature.
Anyone BTDT? Is it a stuck heater valve or has the HVAC computer died? Or?
TIA,
Mike Bess
