Chad:
Did you raise the front of the motor?  Are you doing this with the subframe
on or off?  The S car is supposed to be easier than the earlier t44 chassis
cars because the subframe can stay on the car.  IME, it's tougher because the
clearance is really tight.  Make sure you remove the trans wing mounts first.
 If you are doing this on the floor (my assumption) you will need 2 jacks one
forward one aft.  The alignment of the trans and the engine is critical.  Did
you center the clutch to the pilot bearing?  Did you lightly lube the input
shaft splines with grease?

It sure sound to me if you are only 1/2 in away, you should be able to land
this pup.  The key to the final .5in is to keep the distance from the motor
face to the bellhousing constant, top to bottom, side to side.
