in fact, dale earnhardt suffered a basilar skull fracture from this.
he wore an open face helmet, and in the crash, his face struck the
steering wheel. if the other trauma hadn't killed him, this one
would have.
another advantage of a full face helmet is that it limits the travel
of your head, thereby reducing your chances of a cervical injury. wear
a horseshoe collar.
i've always worn a full face helmet and a horseshoe collar from day 1.
