Yes, Igor the vin split is in '87, but you can't get the early style from the
dealer anymore. Interesting to note that the early vs late S4/6's also have
a number change to the clutch pedal assembly.

Bottom Line: This isn't anything new, breaking of clutch component
assemblies when the clutch master has too much slop. I'm impressed that with
the cheap pedal castings that I'm hearing stories of S cars popping the
master cylinder rod/clevis. That would indicate to me, audi made a strong
clutch pedal (finally), it would also indicate to me, that any fix to what
broke, if it doesn't include a MC R&R, will just break something else.

Only in the post-'87 cars, Scott, across the type-44 model range when
Audi replaced the stamped steel clutch pedals with cast Aluminium ones.
I didn't have this problem in my '85 5000s. But it happened in my '89
200TQ twice(!) - coz I was dumb enough to rebuild the clutch master
cylinder instead of replacing it, not realising that the cylinder inner
walls were pitted and the piston was still binding in the bore. Withisn
a week or two WHAM! I snapped a replacement pedal ($94 out ht ewindow).
After which I did finally replace the Master, the Slave, the ubber
pressure hose and the pedal.
Scott Mockry told me that he had snapped the pedal once in his '90
200TQ. And a few other guys indicated the same.
