Hi Scott,
That port is used for exhaust gas analysis during tune up. This has to be p=
erformed before the catalytic converter.
We debated this a great deal during GP1 development. The resulting popular =
opinion was that area is under highest heat load and we did not want to wea=
ken that point by drilling another hole there. The reasoning is since tune=
up is infrequent, there are several options. The Stromung flange thickness =
also was chosen to bolt up to an RS2 turbo directly, where the bolts are ve=
ry short. This choice dis-allowed a fat flange to accommodate a sniffer rig=
ht at the turbo exit.
Options we chose:
1: Install a second O2 sensor hole in the downpipe, which is normally bolte=
d closed
2: Install the Stromung straight pipe (cat eliminator) and sniif at the exh=
aust tips
3: Open the exhaust at the downpipe to center resonator pipe intersection a=
nd sniff there.

I used option 3 with ease for a recent tuneup. If you're tuning a lot, and =
analyzing frequently, then option 1 is easiest. I think it's overkill and c=
hoose the easy path.
This is how the system evolved.

The Stromung turbo back exhaust arrived a few days ago, looks nice :-)

Question about the small pipe tapped on the stock exhaust flange near the
turbo that is covered w/an orange "nipple"... what is it? Should it be
incorporated into the new exhaust system? There is no such tap on the
Stromung... although the O2 sensor tap is in place...

Thanks,
