Some good points for using e-mail lists have been presented.
I personally feel the forums interface is easier to track threads that
interest you as well as having a knowledge base that's easily searchable
(and threads are maintained).
E-mail is pretty easy to manage, especially since you can filter it all
to one folder, but the thread management is marginal if grouped/sorted by
subject. The signal to noise is much higher here than on live forums... as
they do tend to attract "punks".
Perhaps a more robust archiving feature w/search and threads could satisfy
everyone?
