I would support having the archives formatted in forum mode.  Perhaps
the archived email messages could be submitted to a vBulletin clone that
sorted by heading.  The "forum" that resulted would not accept any email
except from the list meister, (equivalent to locking threads and topics)
but could be reviewed using the search capabilities of vBulletin.
