Doug,
My point wasn't about the wrong ECU in the wrong car because no such things
exist. Take a 91 S4 ECU and put it into a 97 (Euro) S6 and it will work
perfect if the chips inside it are made for that particular ECU. If you
swap chips from one ECU to the other, the car might not run as it should,
simply because the chips weren't made for the ECU they are used in. Such
things happen quite often and people wonder why their car doesn't work as
someone else's, which has the same chips in its ECU, and the point is *the
wrong chips in the wrong ECU*.
But as I can't see the ECU, the car nor the chips in front of my eyes, I
can't commit for sure and thus I'll say YMMV.
