To that hopeless sicky who made this post,
You've mentioned that certain corner at that certain track that was the root
of all this trouble. Don't just stop with the 6 speed to get the rpms higher
and further into your boost as you hit that apex in 3rd gear. Go back several
years and research, dare I say it, "NEGATIVE BOOST". It was a much debated
series of articles about how to lower boost threshold on the urS4. Several
things you could do are the MAF screen removal or if you're less
adventuresome the RS2 MAF and the Ram Air Intake System(RAIS) incorporated
into the existing oilcooler plumbing. Autospeed.com, the online car magazine
from Australia was to blame for all that controversy. Or, if you're truly
whacked out you could go with an FMIC, mount a larger oil cooler at the stock
I/C location, and go with a dedicated RAIS just like I did.
If you've seen the size of the feed hole into the cold air box, it will
become obvious that with any turbo larger than a K24, you're just going to
need more feed. I have been the butt of many jokes and sideways snickering
over some of my Home Depot RAISs. One person who did not snicker but put his
thoughts to a computer was none other than Mike Pederson. I can't remember
the numbers but he did compute the pressure value of the RAIS at speed.
Snicker if you will but I saw a significant lowering of threshold when I put
this mod together. Julian Edgar, the Autospeed editor, who worte the Negative
boost article used a lot of pressure measurements as he fiddled with ways to
get his otherwise stock S4 to spool quicker with its K24. The way I looked
at it if it could help the smaller K24 it could really help a larger turbo.
So, Bill, if you go through all this trouble for that one turn, doesn't it
make sense to go the extra mile and work with what you've got to complete
your insanity? Let me know if you'd like more information you sick, perverse,
loveable guy you.
