[s-cars] Drivers Side Door Latch Broke?!

It might be easy to fix.

I had the same thing happen to my 90 CQ this winter. I haven't had this
happen to my S6 but if they are similar (look exactly the same from the
outside) this may work. I took the inner door panel out but after fixing I
believe I could have done this without taking the whole door apart so I
would try this first.

Pull the inside door latch as far as you can (as if you were trying to open
the door from the inside). There should be a screw you can see on the back
side of the latch when you pull it to the open position. Take off this
screw and you should be able to pull out the handle and rectangular plastic
housing (I believe it comes out by pulling it either towards the front or
rear of the car, I can't exactly remember). There is a little hook attached
to a cable which mechanically opens the door latch. In my case this hook
simply came unhooked from the latch (it happened in the freezing cold and
when I pulled the very stiff door handle). If you find this cable you can
simply pull on it and it should open the door. If this is the case simply
(it takes some patient manipulation) hook the cable back to the handle and
it should work. If you need more room and want to take the inner door off,
there are probably a few screws (you may have to fish around for them)
located in the door armrest (accessed from underneath) which you must take
unscrew and then pull the inner door panel up (try not to break the plastic
clips) and out. You will also likely have to remove and unplug the
electronics from the door (door lock, window, seat memory switches) as well.
This is not a difficult job as I have done it and I am a total novice shade
tree wanabee. Again this is from a 1990 CQ two door so I can't promise
exact similarity. You might be able to learn more and get a better
description from the very helpful and informative pages of www.20v.org which
is where I got my info. They apply to the 20v sedan as well which had four
doors.

If it's something deeper inside the door, it's may be more painstaking as it
is hard to get at things without taking out the window and regulator stuff
in there.

HTH's, and good luck

Ok Gents..I use to like to watch the Dukes of Hazard when I was a kid..but
come on'....my drivers side door latch (inside) seems to have come
disconnected...thus I have to roll-down the window and open it from the
outside the lock the car and roll the window back up w/ the key.

Anyone else have this happen? Easy to fix? Parts needed?

Thx

cp
