Have the head ?? is it magna fluxed, as well checked for "flatness" as a
part of the inspection process.
I don't know that it is as common in the 20v heads as I have heard talk of
re 10v head experiences but cracks do happen, and the cracks can be the
cause, source of coolant leaks.
The current head on which a number of flow tests & other experiments have,
and are being run, is a 20v junker due to cracks developing in the wrong (un
weldable) places.
2nd Unless you've converted to studs, its not a socket IIRC. You're dealing
with a large "star" insert pattern. You need a special tool to fit the head
bolts. Lisle (?sp has/sells them.) & BTW get the "righty, tighty or Lefty
loosey" or maybe its vice versa mantra, right (don't ask me), and save
yourself a LOT of problems :-)

~To all my friends, (think Mickey Rourke in Barfly)
~
~My engine is leaking coolant at the interface between the head and the
~block, behind the EM. I'm mentally prepared to take off the head, check
~that it's flat, and replace the gasket.
~Note: I replaced the coolant reservoir cap suspecting that it was not
~venting properly. No help, although it does not leak at all with the cap
~off, = no pressure. I watched the leak stop when I removed the
~cap. BTW, no
~coolant in the oil.
~
~My question/pipe dream. Any chance that re-torquing the head bolts will
~stop the leak?
~Also, what type/size socket fits the head bolts. 6 or 12 point?
~
~Thanks for the help.
