I bought a set of HD's for my '93 S4 from Shox.com in Sept. of 2000. Finally had them installed in January 2001. This past October 2002, the front end had minimal damping after a night driving through DC's roads. The car felt like was a slammed ricer. Shop checked everything out and was fairly certain it was the shocks.
I called Bilstein directly and got the run-around. Called Shox.com and they told me my options were:
1) remove the shocks, send them to them, they would send them to Bilstein for testing, and if they were found to be bad, they would send me a another front pair. This would take a 4-6 weeks though and obviously the car would be undriveable.
2) buy another front pair, send them back the originals, they would send to Bilstein, etc.
I went with option 2). So, I had to front the cost of another pair of shocks, but 6 weeks later I received a check from Shox.com reimbursing me for the cost of a pair HD's. When I called them to ask about it, they told me one of the shocks was "blown". Took a while and I had to eat the labor cost, but the shocks were warranteed.
