FW: [s-cars] Custom Pedal set, moved to heel-toe contortion

While talking to Bob Bondurant about the heel-toe method he said the
'heel-toe method' was actually created and dubbed such in formula 1 when
they were experimenting with relocating the pedals. Left to right was the
clutch, gas, and brake. With this setup you could put your heel on the gas
and your toe on the brake comfortably. Problem was the drivers would forget
they were in a 'special' pedaled car and hit the wrong pedal as a reflex.
According to Bob, after nearly killing himself he was happy to see the
engineers go back to the standard pedal setup. Where they heel-toe
technique had to be modified to adapt to the 'normal' pedal arrangement.

While some racers/ instructors actually contort to put heel on gas and the
ball of the foot on the brake, most racers I've worked with and talked to
put the ball of the foot on the brake and roll the side of the foot onto the
gas while braking. Of course, the pedals have to be setup properly for
either heel-toe method to work well.

As one who uses the misnamed heel-toe technique subconsciously in daily
driving, I, for one, have never used the technique shown in the diagram on
the ebay page for this product. The act of actually putting one's heel on
the gas pedal while toeing the brake (or even using the ball of the foot)
seems utterly ridiculous at best, and requires quite an awkward contortion.
Heel-toe as I learned it (thank you Ms. St. James, high heels and all)
doesn't involve the heel at all.
Am I all wet, or is this a POSEUR/RICER mod? Can I get mine purple
anodized? If so, how well will they conduct heat?
I actually think our cars are set up pretty well for heel-toeing, using my
stock pedals and stock 12EEEs (you know what they say about guys with big
feet...they have an easier time matching revs!)

Hi "Alvert" aka vickie?

I am interested in the pedals but have a question.

My gas pedal doesn't have the pedal anymore, but I think it's just a
cover. It sounds like their pedals attach to the old pedal though, will
this cause a problem.

Thanks

Chris
