I have very little to add here, but some common sense practices I
developed from no racing, and no schooling (yet). But, having had many,
well several, - okay one in particular - car over the years which did
not idle and run well at a stopped incline, I have "learned" the
aforementioned technique of rolling the right foot, while on the brake
over to the gas pedal to keep her running. (another Opel story). The
pbrake is the easy way out for gurls.

This technique is finely honed when your starter motor is completely
shot and instead of fixing it, you always park on a hill, for an easy
push/roll start. When on the incline, you can be sure, you're not gonna
let her stall out!
