Q: Does anyone know if there is a way to find out how much
an auctioned car sold for?
A: If you know the original eBay Item number which it was
listed under, you can pull the results of the auction for
90 days afterwards using the following URL:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1234567890
Where you subsitute in the item number for the 1234567890
number at the end of the URL.
If you know the eBay user ID of the winning bidder, you can
look through his/her feedback profile to determine who left
feedback for them, and trace those back to various item
numbers and individuals (which will permit you to pull the
items won within the last 90 days if there was feedback
left, as well as contact the original seller if there was
feedback left at any point by the seller even beyond the
90 day limit).
Aside from eBay, if you have the VIN, you can contact the
state tax office and find out what the transfer price was
listed at for the vehicle at the last time of sale,
although some states are hesitant to give out that
information, and the information may well be false if the
buyer and seller agreed to falsify it to reduce the buyer's
tax liability for the vehicle (quite common on used car
transactions between individuals).
Good Luck!
