The boost on the SQ is solely controlled by wastegate spring stiffness.
There are no frequency valve on this system with the LH-Jetronic. If you are
refering to the boost-gauge inside the instrument panel this is electric
controlled by the ECU and is very inaccurate. The stock max boost on the SQ
is 1,05 barg(showing as 2,05 on the gauge) on the European models. I do not
believe the check-engine light is related to low boost, but low boost is a
function of malfunctioning sensors.
I will try tomorrow to disconnect the sensors(air temp,water temp,MAF etc)
on my car and see if I can provoke a similar situation as you have.
Is the US cars equipped with both catalysators and O2 sensor?
