Subject: [s-cars] stumbling
Today my 95 s6 started hestitating, especially under harder
acceleration.
Idle is a bit rough but no stalling. Under light acceleration there is
an
occasional miss. If I get boost up to 5 psi it misses like crazy. To
get >
5psi I have to really put my foot into it (much more than usual).
Vacuum is
normal at 18-19 " hg. At constant rpm without acceleration it drives
almost
normal. Any ideas on where to start diagnosing?
The car drove fine when I first started it after work. On the way home
I
stopped for 1/2 hour in a store and when I started it up it was
'broken'.
It's the first really cold day of the year so I topped the tank with
fresh
gas and tried gas drier, to no avail.
I'll start snooping the archives, but since this is my first
driveability
issue I'm not really sure where to start...
Thanks for any pointers!
Ed

So I just got an email from someone and I realize I forgot to mention
the most significant difference.
A diaphragm style valve has a larger surface area on the vacume side,
and smaller on the plunger side. This also effects the speed of opening
and force that is generated, plus with such a diferential you should
need less spring, you also have much more force holding the valve closed
this again would require less spring relative to a plunger style.
Of course this is all on the chalk board.

So I really like the diaphragm style, 2 reasons.
1) it takes a bit of engineering and capitol to manufacture a good
diaphragm style bypass valve. Otherwise I could make it.
2) Low inertial mass, quicker response, the bosch is really the epitome
of this all others are degree's worse. Big aluminum, plastic slugs are
pretty serious offenders, the worse being brass.

Bailey stinks, especially for that cfm you're flowing,
Gary. The internals are still rubber/plastic. The
TXS 34mm is too big for our plumbing, unless you have
the 2Bennett Samco? I used the TXS H-25 on my RS2
turbo, clean as a whistle.
