[s-cars] Losing hydraulic oil from power steering pump

Barbed fitting on wastegate is not supposed to have anything connected to
it. It is just a vent. Leave it be. The X plug can be removed with a large
1/2" drive straight blade screwdriver available from Sears and others
including NAPA. The tool I bought is from NAPA and the part # NS91 is
stamped on it. I put it to the grinder to knock off the corners for a
perfect fit. An impact wrench with you pushing with sufficient pressure
works well for removal of the plug. The o-ring on the plug is especially
hard and common o-rings will not hold the pressure. I have 6 on order
currently but none "in stock". I have misplaced the part# for the o-ring. I
was guessing anyway. We shall see if I guessed correctly when I receive
whatever I ordered. The part # for a plug with o-ring is 026 145 541. You
can order this from Crescent City Motors 800.966.7222 ask for the parts
department they will send it to you.
Best,
Tim Leonard

Subject: [s-cars] Losing hydraulic oil from power steering pump

> Hello,
>
> I have a slow leak of hydraulic oil from the power steering / brake boost
pump on my '95 S6. At first, I thought it was the fitting at the top of the
pump (see photo:
http://volcano.photobucket.com/albums/v11/tachyon/Audi/Dscn2273.jpg). I
have tightened that fitting as much as I dare and the leak persists. There
is a plug in the top of the pump with a recessed cross (see the photo again)
that I assume works with a special tool for installation and removal. I
tried tightening this plug by grinding a cold chisel to fit one leg of the
cross "+" and was not able to budge it. I'm about 300 miles from the
nearest Audi dealer. I would like to find a way to stop this leak without
making the drive.

that I presume to be a valve body that sits on top of the turbo (the waste
gate valve perhaps, here's another photo...
http://volcano.photobucket.com/albums/v11/tachyon/Audi/Dscn2275.jpg). There
is an open barbed fitting on the back side of this device that I assume
should have a hose connected to it. The car runs smooth and strong and as
far as I know this barbed fitting has been without a connected hose since I
bought the car several years ago. Is this anything to be concerned about?
