[s-cars] Screening Gauges

How to:
1. Get the gauge with the right range. Note the gauge must support
rim-lighting and center arm lighting (i.e. - light from around the rim
of the gauge, and the indicator must carry light of it's own by virtue
of translucence). Traditional from-rear translucent lighting of the
dial will not work.
2. Disassemble and scan the face of the gauge.
3. Color modify as desired.
4. Go visit your local signage printer (same guy who does stickers for
race cars). Tell him to print on clear 3M material with whatever you
want on the face. Make sure you bring him the original, so he can size
it perfectly. Should run about $25 - $75 for something this size,
especially if you already did the prepress work (i.e. - color changes,
etc).
5. Be careful during application to ensure the newly printed gauge
label lines up perfectly with the old gauge settings (so the numbers
aren't off).
6. Reassembled and install.
Note that because of the nature of this method, back-lit gauges don't
work properly (the ink used to print the numbers is not transluscent).
Best Wishes,
