Bob, don't fret I've got a bad pinion bearing and have been driving for a y=
ear now on it with no ill effects except it's noisy with the windows down. =
Although much less noisy when I switched to Amsoil gear oil.

If it is the pinion bearing and you want to quiten it down I would suggest =
a good does of Miltec-1. See write up on Auto-speed, this might help only t=
emperary though...

http://www.autospeed.com/A_0818/page1.html

Page two describes using it on a "1993 Audi S4". I found the rebbuttle at t=
he end of the article very interesting, Autospeed did see remarkable improv=
ements using this product but they where short lived accroding to them. The=
Miltec-1 people claim they didn't use enough of the product for a lasting =
effect, or that the product can't repair a damaged part (obviously) and eve=
ntually the hot spot creating the noise will come back. The product did mak=
e a difference, whether it would prevent long term wear and tear or if used=
enough could it dramatically reduce the friction of a stressed part remain=
s to be seen.

Cheers, /James.
