My first Audi was a new 97 A4 2.8Q. When I went to
look for a 2nd car I test drove a well used black/ecru
S4 at a dealership in Ct that was not well kept and
had a high asking price. I was not impressed by the
engine as I hoped I would be because the car had no
boost. The interior was very similiar to my A4 which
I liked very much.
The 2nd car I test drove was my current 200Q20v.
Everything worked on it except for the heated seats
and the asking price was half of what the S4 was going
for. I bought it on the spot.
If you want to keep the purchase price as low as
possible buy a 200Q20v.
If you want a more refined car with more up to date
amenities (hmmmm, like the power seat switch and a/c
controller) then buy the newest s-car you can afford.
I would've loved a 95.5 S6 but I couldn't justify the
cost of one nearly 5 years ago when I was in the
market, and now that I have the 200Q20v I find little
incentive to move up to a newer S-car.... doesn't help
that 'the wife' wouldn't want me to buy another 'old
car' again.

2002 Mazda MPV replaced the newer A4, 1,700 miles.
