How on earth can he come back to you with problems 4+ months later? It seems to me HE's the one stuck, not you. You sold it to him, signed over the title and money changed hands, right? Maybe I just don't get this California smog thing, but it seems to me the sale is final and the car is the kids problem...not yours...
