Marc: I think the tip off is whether your significant other's 100S has the little IR receiving "bump" on the left and right B-pillar (OF THE CAR!!) (each "bump" is about 1.75 long by 0.625 in wide, (by memory), dark plastic). This is where the signal goes from the IR sender in the key and then to the "smart box" (under the rear seat??). No bump, no IR remote system. On the later cars, when they switched to radio frequency, the "bump"s disappeared.
