While looking for some better info on EGT ranges & limits I came across the
following two sites / comments that you might (or might not) find of further
interest:
1st ~ somewhat on topic, but less than inconclusive comments / opinions of
http://www.sdsefi.com/techegt.htm
2nd ~ off topic, but interesting,

~Hmm, I was told 1k deg C before the turbo max, and somewhere under 800
~deg C after. I have both a WB o2 and an egt after the hot side, soon to
~have one after each cylinder.
And in the FWIW, 1,000? C ~> @ 1,832? F
800? C ~> 1,472? F
--------- ---------
@ 200? @ 360? F
No idea how applicable in the gasoline (vs. diesel) world of applications
and material limitations, but for the moment, a cursory perusal of the
diesel crowd comments would lead one to think they advocate a much lower
tolerable manifold EGT figure, ".... at 1270 F (688 C), the tips of the
turbine blades begin to blow. .... The factory Garrett turbocharger will
pull all day long at 1250, but in our opinion, 1270 degrees is the DO NOT
EXCEED temp for sustained use." from
(http://www.fastdiesel.com/docs/egt.html )
Likewise Banks suggests a range of 1350? F to 1400? F as "safe" for
sustained diesel operation http://www.bankspower.com/Tech_whyegt.cfm
Anyone got any better info on heat ranges &/or tolerances for (a) pistons,
(b) valves & (c) turbocharger components?
