For the benefit of anyone facing the same problem
(roof window stop point needs to be reset), here is
what I've discovered...
The owner's manual describes the proceedure to
manually close the roof window in the event it becomes
stuck. However, the manual is not clear on several
points. The manual crank can operate the window
without removing the red plug. Removal of the plug
disengages the motor from the drive mechanism. I was
able to reindex the mechanism to the proper zero point
through trial and error by pulling the plug half-way
out and using the supplied hex-key to manually change
the window position. After several tries, I was able
to get the window properly synchronized to the
operator.
Here are a few more tips:
- Relieve the tension on the mechanism by turning the
manual crank a small amount in each direction before
pulling the plug. You will be able to feel when it is
in a slack state.
- The exterior of the red plug is splined. Two of the
splines (oriented 180 degrees apart) are wider than
the others. The wide splines have to engage the wider
slots in the toothed ring inside the gear mechanism.
- There is an upper and a lower toothed ring the red
plug must engage to be fully reinserted. The upper
ring serves to engage the motor to the gear mechanism.
Apparently, the lower ring serves to index the drive
to the stop points. When reinserting the red plug,
care must be taken to properly engage the wider
splines with both the upper and lower toothed rings.
One can visually align the plug to the lower toothed
ring. If resistance is encountered at the halfway
point the plug must be rotated to engage the upper
ring. By doing so, I found the ring could easily be
fully reinserted.
- I do not know if the mechanism has a safety limit
that turns off the motor under improper resitance. I
was concerned the drive could self destruct if the
motor continued to run with the window at either
mechanical limit. I was prepared to quickly turn off
the motor when testing for the proper stop point.
Fortunately, I did not encounter a problem.
Hope others find this information helpful.
