Igor was kind enough to leave out a few details.  Igor:  "Stefan, why don't we
undo the spring compressor, re-position and try again?"  Stefan "Don't worry
Igor, I'll get it out". :-)  I was partially right.  Other than this incident,
the entire project went flawlessly.  One note to Avant owners.  The rear spring
is a strange animal.  On the ground, it is actually TALLER than the stock
spring.  It has three or so additional windings on the top, which are covered
by a plastic sleave.  When reassembled, the three top windings actually butt up
against each other and act as a spacer.  Strange design.  Although due to MY
haste, we did not measure before and after, my precise after the fact
measurements are:  looks cool.  Oddly enough, I remembered to soak all
alignment adjustment threads with lots of penetrating oil for the upcoming
alignment.

Again, thank you Igor for your patience and talking me out of tearing the axle
out last night, completely exhausted, aggravated as heck and hungry.  BTW, the
A4 is a wonderful car and handles like a dream.  If I owned both, I could not
see myslef enjoying the S6 tank having the option to drive the A4.
