VW/Audis, and maybe other european cars, don't have an accessory position on
the ignition switch. So they have the radio wired direct so you can listen to
it without having to turn on the car. I like the set up in my '93 VW Corrado.
The radio is powered by a circuit that is only active with the key inserted (as
long as the key has been turned to the ignition position at some point). So
when you shut off the car the radio stays active, but when you pull out the key
it shuts off. I haven't looked into the Audi circuitry to determine if a
similar circuit exists that the radio could be wired to.
