[s-cars] Center Support Bearing?

Stefan,

I just the center bearing on my 92 S4 replaced. THe rubber was fin but the
bearing made a wirring noise that was pretty loud inside the car. Kind of a
RRRRR as the car came to a stop. I bought the BMW part off of the s-car
members only parts place. Around $45.00 The support did not match the Audi
part so I just popped the old bearing out of the Audi mount and inserted the
bearing from the BMW part into the old mount and everything is fine.

I disassembled the front driveshaft CV joint first to see if lubing it up
would work, but no dice. Knocking driveshaft could be a sign of a dry CV
joint. When I disassembled the front driveshaft CV joint I first put it
back together wrong and it was binding and causing the driveshaft to wabble
and hit the tunnel.

Try lubing the CV joint?

Jack

Subject: [s-cars] Center Support Bearing?

Yesterday, my new to me 95 S6 Avant began making a slight metallic
knocking sound somewhere from the middle of the car, when accelerating
in 1st gear. The knocking was faster than the turning of the wheels. In
second gear, about 3-4K RPM, the knocking turned to a chirping sound. -
No Laughing please. Today, knocking, chirping, and vibration in first
gear and second gear up to about 3500RPM. No vibration at medium and
high speeds. From my lurking on the list, I am thinking center support
bearing, or maybe driveshaft CV joints. I got under the car and was
able lift the driveshaft near the center support bearing at least 1/2 an
inch upward and sideways with a long screwdriver. The rubber busing
looked brittle but I cannot tell if it is torn. Does this sound
familiar to anyone? I vaguely remember something about a BmVee Part No.
Any help is appreciated on this rainy miserable spring day.

TIA
